Protect your eyes in style with the Makani polarized sustainable bamboo sunglasses by Lani Shades. Makani means wind in the Hawaiian language and the Makani style is inspired by the need for a low profile sports style frame with less wind resistance and more peripheral sun protection for sailing and other outdoor adventures in Hawaii. Available in Iwa (black) and Mauka (dark brown) durably dyed bamboo.

The Lani Shades Makani sports style bamboo frame has been in development for a while and we're finally able to introduce this first version for a special limited edition release to only our close friends. It's almost perfect! We say almost, because honestly there's a little debate going on right now within our design team. Everyone thinks the style turned out beautifully and some of our advisors want to keep the design exactly as is. Everyone who has seen it swears it's the coolest style they've ever worn, however what makes the Lani Shades product line special is that our sunglasses frames float. Floating sunglasses, it's what we do. After producing this first limited batch, we float tested the Makani design and concluded that it floats a little in salt water but in this current design variation doesn't quite pass our float test in fresh water. This is only because of the slim arms, which add to the aesthetic but don't quite have enough positive buoyancy. We're producing a Makani II with thicker arms so they'll float properly but in the meantime, we have a small batch of this first variation that we're offering as a special limited edition to people who don't care if their sunglasses float in fresh water.
